Taurus Packaging (Pty) Ltd is a manufacturer of paper bags and sacks for the southern African market. The company converts in excess of 20 000 tons of paper every year in the Isethebe factory close to Durban South Africa. With around 75% of all raw materials being imported the company needs to carry a large quantity of raw material inventory. This inventory value is very high and therefore has to be very carefully managed. Using SYSPRO, Taurus contacted DATASCOPE with an enquiry on the WMS system offering.

The Taurus processes and products are very complex and requires a lot of unique solutions. DATASCOPE invested a lot of time and effort to completely understand the business requirements with particular focus on where the standard system did not cater for the needs. Here some customizations where developed under DATASCOPE’s guidance. One of the key customizations was around the printing processes as these processes are costing and need to be carefully controlled.
Before the project go live all systems where carefully tested and simulated. Detailed training was given to the staff and the final preparation for the stock take was completed. Once all initial issues had been addressed the system was moved to the live environment and the DATASCOPE team worked all hours of the day and night with the Taurus staff. This operation is a 24/7 production facility with 5 interlinked factories.
